Thank you for visiting my website. I am excited to share information about my upcoming memoir No Longer Silent: How I Found My Voice after Sexual Abuse. My memoir focuses on healing from childhood trauma and incest specifically. I hope my book will help others struggling to share secrets they may have hidden or are still hiding. Healing is possible. There is only one way out and that’s working through the traumatic past to get to the other side. The process can be difficult, but the reward yields strength, courage, and resilience.
I will also be posting blogs about various topics including my travels with my husband and spending time with my grandchildren. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than watching my grandchildren growing up surrounded by love and seeing them thrive.
As a young mother, my hope was to raise my children with self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth. These were areas that I struggled with as a child and I wanted to do better for my children. My shyness and secrets held me back. Fortunately for me, I had the unconditional love of my grandparents and my uncle. It was this love that kept me going.
My hope is that my grandchildren and great grandchildren flourish with love and kindness. And, that they know they have a voice to speak up if they need to.

“Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair” is a story about a little girl born to a teenage mother and some tender moments about the rare one-on-one time she spent with her mother. As Jeanie got older her mother made her promise to tell her if anyone touched her inappropriately – a promise Jeanie forgot until decades later. The story is about her secret and her estrangement from both of her parents and her quest for healing.
“Unfinished Business” is a story about Jean’s mother’s death without reconciliation and resolving issues between them – unfinished business.
About Jean
Jean Wells is a retired administrator turned writer. Before she retired ten years ago, Jean spent over thirty years in the public sector. Jean’s career began as a stenographer for the state of California working for the Chancellor’s Office in California Community Colleges. Jean was a young mother when she started working and learned to juggle the demands of child-rearing and the home/work balance. Jean married soon after graduating from high school and wasn’t able to go to college, which was her dream. Jean had two more children and college was put further on the back burner. Jean loved being a mom, but as the kids got older it became harder to balance the home/work balance.
In 1989, Jean was a member of a group of ten mothers who made a commitment to journal for one decade about their decisions with regard to Work and Family Choices. This group met at least once per year to discuss their journal writing and discoveries. The group leader compiled everyone’s work and printed it into a spiral bound book. The intent was to gift this book to their children. The books were presented to their children on Mother’s Day in the Year 2000.
